War Memorial Re-Dedication 22nd June 2019

Fillongley War Memorial

The re-dedication of the Fillongley War Memorial will take place on Saturday June 22nd 2019 at 6pm prompt.

The Re-dedication ceremony will be performed by the Right Reverend Doctor Christopher Cocksworth Bishop of Coventry.

It is earnestly hoped that you will attend and by your presence pay a further tribute of respect, both by prayer and praise, to the memory of FILLONGLEY’S FALLEN SONS.  To enable the Committee to carry out the arrangements befitting this great and glorious occasion, with due dignity and order, will you kindly attend not later than 5.45pm.

In a community act of commemoration, the Parish Council plan to re-dedicate the War Memorial. Coventry Road will be closed as on Remembrance Day in order to accommodate people.

5.30 -5.45 Bells will ring out as people gather at the War Memorial

6.00 pm.  Rev Jane Braund will introduce Bishop Christopher.

With a thought to the first dedication, and the handing on of the Act of Remembrance to the next generation, local children will read “O Valiant Hearts” which was originally sung at the dedication.  A veteran Warwickshire Regt bugler will play the Last Post before 2 minutes silence, then Reveille.  Bishop Christopher will close with prayers and the rededication before we sing the National Anthem.

After the act of dedication the Church will be open for tea/coffee and a display of information about the original creation of the War Memorial and the research into the lives of the men remembered on it.
