At a Parish Meeting held on Wednesday 19th January 1919, the Fillongley War Memorial was agreed.  An appeal to raise funds was started to enable a “suitable Memorial to commemorate the gallant deeds of her fallen sons”.

Following door to door collections and a lot of hard work, “The Unveiling of the above will take place on Saturday June 22nd at 6pm prompt.  The Opening Ceremony will be performed by Lt. Gen. Sir John Lindsay Keir, KCB.  It is earnestly hoped that you will attend and by your presence pay a further tribute of respect, both by prayer and praise, to the memory of FILLONGLEY’S FALLEN SONS.

To enable the Committee to carry out the arrangements befitting this great and glorious occasion, with due dignity and order, will you kindly attend not later than 5.45pm

Fillongley Parish Council were delighted that the War Memorial was able to be renovated to its original glory in time for the commemoration of the end of the First World War.  Thanks for the renovation works go to the War Memorials Trust, to Cllr Jo Hooke, Greg Budworth of B & J Blacksmiths, Declan Hopkins and Alan Darby stonemasons of Bellamy & Waterhouse, Kevin Tonks and O’Flanagan Homes and Tim Jerrard -Dinn from County Building Supplies, Fillongley Parish Council and all who have assisted in the fundraising by buying tickets for raffles etc.
